Unmetered Supplies User Group (UMSUG) Measurements

UMS testing, also known as UMSUG testing, evaluates the energy consumption of public lighting and other street furniture that is not individually metered.

At TheLIA Laboratory, we provide UMS testing (also known as UMSUG testing) to measure the energy consumption of any electrical equipment connected to the distribution network without individual meters, such as street lights, traffic signs, and zebra crossings. Accurate Charge Codes are essential to ensure energy usage is recorded precisely, enabling fair billing based on actual consumption rather than estimates.

We comply with the latest ELEXON requirements, which mandate that any test house performing UMS testing be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, with a schedule of accreditation clearly defining the wattage, voltage, or current ranges the laboratory is competent to test. Our testing establishes reliable energy usage profiles, helping utilities allocate costs correctly and ensuring users are charged fairly.

Testing can be carried out either on-site or in our laboratory, and we provide detailed reports to support your ELEXON Charge Code application. For further guidance, please refer to ELEXON’s Operational Information Document here.
