BSI Standards - Request Form

As a BSI distributor, The LIA is formally authorised to supply British Standards on behalf of BSI to LIA Members.

This distributor role enables member companies to request standards through The LIA at a discounted rate compared with direct purchase from BSI, while ensuring full adherence to BSI’s access and licensing requirements.

This is member benefit is distinct from the SME (Small & Medium Enterprise) standards access included within LIA membership, which is a limited benefit providing access to selected standards for a single named user of the Member company, and not equivalent to full distributor or direct BSI customer access.

What BSI Standards access is available through LIA membership?

The LIA offers members access to BSI Standards through two routes:

  • Included access to selected lighting-related BSI Standards (for SME members ONLY)

  • Discounted purchase of BSI Standards across lighting and non-lighting categories, as The LIA is now an official BSI distributor

This partnership enhances your LIA membership by making standards more accessible, faster to obtain, and more cost-effective.

Who is eligible to access BSI Standards through the LIA?

Access depends on your membership type:

  • SME members receive access to a suite of lighting-related BSI Standards via the LIA BSI portal

  • All LIA members can access 20% discounted BSI Standards through the LIA–BSI distribution partnership

What is an SME member?

An SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) member is an LIA member organisation that meets the standard UK definition of an SME, typically based on company size and turnover.

In general, an SME:

  • Has fewer than 250 employees, and

  • Has an annual turnover of up to £50 million or a balance sheet total of up to £43 million

SME membership is designed to support smaller organisations by providing access to essential industry resources — including selected BSI Standards — as part of their membership benefits.

How many people in my organisation can access the included BSI Standards?

For members with included access one employee per eligible member company is allocated a login.

This access is intended for internal reference use.

Is the BSI login the same as my LIA website login?

No. Your BSI Standards login is separate from your LIA website login.

You will receive dedicated login details for BSI access if eligible.

How do I access discounted BSI Standards?

All LIA members are entitled to 20% off BSI Standards.

To access this benefit:

  1. Log in to the LIA website

  2. Visit the BSI page

  3. Complete the request form

Payment must be made in full before the standard is released.

What if I need wider or unlimited access to BSI Standards?

BSI offers direct membership options where pricing is based on company size.

You can:

  • Use the BSI Membership Calculator to explore costs

  • Liaise directly with BSI if you require broader or organisation-wide access
