Commercial Luminaire Safety Assessment

Emergency Luminaire Safety Assessment

We evaluate the luminaires' ability to operate safely during power failures and that battery life, light intensity, and duration capabilities are all functioning as intended.

Ingress Protection (IP) and Impact (IK) Testing

IP (Ingress Protection) and IK (Impact Protection) testing of luminaires assess their resistance to environmental factors and mechanical impacts.
At The LIA we can assess your IP rating to ensure your fixture’s ability to prevent the penetration of solids (like dust) and liquids (like water), crucial for outdoor, bathroom and industrial settings.

IK testing determines your luminaire's resilience against physical impacts, ensuring durability in high-traffic or vandal-prone areas. Together, these tests ensure that lighting products can withstand harsh conditions and continue to operate effectively, maintaining safety and functionality in diverse environments.

Flammability Tests

We flammability test your luminaires to assesses their resistance to fire and heat, ensuring that materials used do not contribute to flame spread or present hazards.

At The LIA we’re accredited for all your flammability testing needs such as glow wire testing, ball pressure testing and needle flame testing. We’re also accredited for TP(a) and TP(b) testing, which is a UK specific assessment for evaluating the fire performance of diffuser materials used in lighting fixtures.

These tests are crucial for confirming that luminaires will not exacerbate a fire situation, enhancing safety in residential, commercial, and industrial settings by meeting strict safety regulations.

Control Gear Testing

Control gear testing of evaluates the safety of any control gears you use within your lumianires, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.

This testing focuses on the safety and performance of ballasts, drivers, and transformers under various electrical loads and conditions. We check for electrical safety, thermal management, and compatibility with the luminaire's design, ensuring the control gear can withstand electrical conditions during operation and environmental stresses expected during the life of the product.

Annual ENEC PVT testing
At The LIA Laboratory, we specialise in carrying out the required testing to the PD ENEC 303 Annex A document to help manufacturers maintain their ENEC certification.

By providing high levels of testing the LIA is able to produce the required test reports and documentation to ensure the ongoing ENEC certification of your lighting products whilst also acting as liaison between the manufacturer and ENEC certification laboratory to provide a smooth process of ENEC recertification.
