First Advanced-Level Achievement Recognised Through New Enhance Programme from The LIA
Replacing the long-standing Certificate in Lighting, the Enhance Certificate in Lighting Design reflects a modern blended learning approach, combining self-paced online learning, facilitated workshops and practical project application aligned to real-world lighting consultancy practice.
Sam achieved a remarkable 100% on his final project submission, with tutor feedback describing the work as operating beyond the expected course standard.
Dan Griffiths, Technical Operations Manager and subject matter expert at The Lighting Industry Association, said:
In an industry where attention to detail and design quality matter enormously, it is rare to see a candidate push themselves beyond the expected standard in the way Sam has. His submission demonstrated not only technical competence, but the confidence, professionalism and design thinking that are highly valued within the lighting industry. What particularly stood out was the inclusion of additional elements and supporting detail that had not been requested within the brief, but clearly added value for the client experience and demonstrated a genuine understanding of professional lighting design practice.
Reflecting on the experience, Sam highlighted the value of the course’s flexible structure and its impact on his professional development.
The course gave me the foundations behind professional lighting design in a much deeper and more technical way. The blended learning approach worked really well because I could build my understanding at my own pace, then apply it directly through practice and experimentation outside of live project pressures. The project itself allowed me to really explore creative thinking and develop my own design strategy. I put a huge amount of time into it, so receiving this level of recognition has been incredibly rewarding.
Luke Artingstall, Founder and Director of Artin Lighting, also praised both the quality of the submission and the evolution of the programme itself.
When I reviewed Sam’s final document, I was genuinely blown away by the professionalism, care and attention throughout. It went far beyond simply meeting course requirements and became an exemplar piece of design work in its own right. What’s particularly positive is how the course has evolved from purely technical learning into something that encourages strategic and creative design thinking. Sam absolutely embraced that approach and the results speak for themselves.
The achievement represents a significant milestone both for the learner and for the ongoing evolution of professional education within the lighting sector.
