The LIA FAQ's

Who is eligible to become a member of The LIA?

To become a member your business must adhere to the following:

Registered with HMRC for VAT in the UK.
Maintain suitable public liability insurance coverage, determined by annual turnover, as detailed below. The insurance coverage will follow a progressive scale, ranging from a minimum of £1 million up to £5 million. (Certificate to be provided annually.)
- Turnover up to £500,000: £1 million coverage.
- Turnover between £500,001 and £2 million: £2 million coverage.
- Turnover between £2 million and £5 million: £3 million coverage.
- Turnover above £5 million: £5 million coverage or more.
Maintain a turnover of at least £85,000 per annum. (Note: Turnover from lighting and lighting services outside of the UK may be included to fulfil this criterion.)

Can individuals and organisations both become members?

Organisational membership is currently our only offering to lighting manufacturers.

What are the membership fees, and how often do I need to pay them?

Membership fees are worked out from your previous years UK Lighting turnover.

Our membership period runs from January 1st - December 31st each year, with renewals taking place in October.

Do The LIA offer webinars?

Yes. We offer Tech Talks @ 2 webinars that is accessible industry wide.

We also offer member-only Sustainability Illuminated webinars.

How can members contribute to the advocacy efforts of The LIA?

Joining our committees, Technical Committees, Council, and Board will enhance members' contributions to industry wide efforts.

How is The LIA governed?

The LIA is governed by a Council and Board of voted members. Each individual term lasts 4 years, but can opt to be relected.

This is announced at our AGM (this is a member-only event) which takes place once a year.

Our current President of The LIA for 2025/2026 is David Barnwell, Holophane Europe and Vice-President for 2025/2026 is Trevor Grote, British Electric Lamps Ltd.

Do The LIA provide updates on industry standards and regulations?

Yes. We send out montly newsletters to membership, president's newsletters once a quarter to membership, and updates the industry reguarly through our social media platforms; LinkedIn and Instagram.

We also email updates as and when we recieve them to all members as soon as possible.

Does the association seek feedback from members, and how can members provide input?

Yes. We often send surverys to membership and offer members a place in the monthly newsletter and website for the Members' Voice.
