ICEL Unveils Programme for the Emergency Lighting Conference 2024
The Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL) is pleased to announce the programme for the ICEL Emergency Lighting Conference 2024. This year’s conference will be held on Thursday, 12th September 2024, at the Cavendish Conference Centre, in London. The event promises a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements and best practices in the emergency lighting industry.
Facilitated by Joanna Watchman, CEO of B Corp Certified agency Content Coms and Founder of Work in Mind, an ESG and Sustainability Communications Consultant, the conference will bring together leading voices to further ICEL's contributions to enhancing building safety, making environments safer for people to live, work, and learn in.
The conference will feature a series of expert-led sessions with a keynote presentation by Professor Ed Galea, a renowned fire safety engineering expert from the University of Greenwich. Professor Galea will share his extensive research on human behaviour during emergencies, highlighting good practices for enhancing safety and efficiency.
The programme has been designed to cover a vast spectrum of topics relevant to the sector and following feedback from attendees of the successful 2023 event:
- Setting Context and Competence: Kickstarting with an overview of the conference objectives and the role of ICEL, followed by sessions on industry benefits, compliance responsibilities, and will end with the launch of Phase 2 of the ICEL Competence Scheme.
- Product Design: An in-depth solution study on how innovations in emergency lighting, such as longer-life batteries and automatic testing systems, have reduced testing and maintenance burdens, as well as compliance insights from ICEL’s latest market surveillance initiative in partnership with OPSS (the Office for Product Safety and Standards).
- Built Environment: Practical applications of emergency lighting, including case studies on designing effective systems and integrating them into comprehensive fire risk assessments.
- Key Contributors: Engage in discussions on strategies for upgrading and maintaining emergency lighting systems, with an emphasis on real-life newbuild and retrofit applications. The session will culminate in a panel discussion featuring key collaborators from across the emergency lighting industry.
See the full provisional programme here.
Attendees will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, manufacturers, and key stakeholders to develop sustainable relationships and strong collaborations across all realms of the sector.
The day is tailored for a diverse audience, including designers, specifiers, distributors, installers, maintainers, and end users. It aims to attract representatives from leading organisations such as Laing O'Rourke, MITIE, CBRE, NHS, E.ON, EDF, WSP, Transport for London, BDP, and Sainsbury’s, who participated in last year’s event. Additionally, members from key industry bodies like ACE, BAFE, BCA, BCO, ECA, EDA, FIA, IWFM, REF, RICS and SLL are invited to join.
Admission to the ICEL Conference 2024 is free, thanks to the generous sponsorship of emergency lighting manufacturers. Due to high interest and venue capacity, registration does not guarantee immediate attendance. A selection process will ensure a balanced representation across all functions with confirmations to be sent in August 2024.
