Our courses are split into three levels, Core, Enhance, and Advance, and are designed to support learners to progress in their lighting career. They can be undertaken one after the other, or depending on previous experience and knowledge, learners can access each level independently.
Core-level courses are self-paced, meaning they help develop key theoretical knowledge. Typically, these are perfect for those new to the lighting sector and a non-technical.
Enhance-level courses are blended, consisting of 55% delivered through self-paced content, 25% through community-based learning such as participating in discussion boards, peer support, coaching; finishing with a scenario-based project that builds individual skills and experience portfolio’s.
Advance-level courses are focused on experiential learning and learners will need to research specific topics before submitting an assignment on their specialist theme.
Access to the online learning portal is through The LIA website, and details are included below.
Our Enhance-level courses require learners to attend an online workshop, facilitated by a subject matter expert. Booking links can be found via the course content, under the Facilitated Workshop section, which learners will gain access to once they’ve completed all the necessary elements of the online materials.
Pre-requisites for individual courses can be found via the Training webpage which you can access here.

The self-paced elements of all our courses are not timed, and varies based on individual learning styles. There is no right or wrong answer here, however, we’ve added in some indicative timeframes to help understand the average commitment required, by course level below:
Projects are required to be uploaded via the online learning portal, and full instructions on how to do this are included in the Summative Assessment section of the course material. Should there be any issues, please contact a member of the team [email protected]
Learners must ensure they submit their projects within the 8-week period after they have completed the facilitated workshop. Failure to meet this requirement may result in their final grade being capped.
Feedback from the Tutor will be provided via the online learning portal and learners will receive a system notification when this is available. Please ensure you have added the LIA Learning Hub to your approved email addresses, alternatively, if you do not receive feedback within 4 weeks of your project submission, please check your Junk folder in the first instance, and then contact The LIA.
