Schréder is offering a fantastic opportunity to launch your career in lighting design. Join our dedicated Lighting Design and Technical Support team as a Lighting Design Apprentice and help shape the visual experience of outdoor environments—from residential streets to architectural landmarks.

Based in Basingstoke, this apprenticeship is ideal for passionate individuals looking to combine hands-on experience with technical learning. You’ll contribute to high-quality lighting designs, supporting both commercial and public realm projects across the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Create exterior lighting calculations for environments including car parks, residential roads, bridges, and campus areas.
  • Translate client briefs and technical specifications into efficient lighting designs.
  • Collaborate with Local Sales Managers to provide design solutions that balance technical performance with budget requirements.
  • Participate in site visits and client meetings where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records within the CRM system, including design changes.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams including Projects and Engineering.
  • Attend relevant industry events and technical trainings to expand your knowledge.

 

Qualifications & Skills
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to build a career in lighting or engineering design.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • High attention to detail with a creative, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Practical and hands-on with a genuine passion for technology and innovation.
  • Able to manage deadlines and deliver results in a collaborative environment.

 

Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other 2D CAD software.
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks or other 3D design tools is a plus.
  • GCSEs including English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Intention to enrol in an Engineering Design Technician apprenticeship (ST0164).
  • Must be 16 years or older.
