Our Purpose

The Lighting Industry Association is Europe’s largest Trade Association for lighting equipment professionals. This includes lighting manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, wholesalers, designers and all professionals active in the UK lighting market.

Our mission is - "through collaboration - we will develop the quality, safety and performance of the UK Lighting Industry." - Steve Davies, CEO, LIA

We have created a strong brand that stands for good quality lighting and adds value to all applications.

Designed from the bottom-up, we are driven by our Members' needs, quickly responding and adapting to changing Membership needs and expectations as required. From exhibitions and committees to our technical forums, we offer a full calendar of engagement, social and networking opportunities.

Representing you

The LIA is recognised globally as the authority on lighting and members are encouraged to get involved.

We have introduced the UK Lighting Sector Strategy, the joint industry and Government strategy designed to set out a roadmap to 2030. We have also recently joined the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Smart Cities.

Influencing lighting regulation

We work closely with legislators in the UK and Europe and enjoy global recognition as an authority on lighting.

We represent all aspects of UK, EU and international lighting stakeholders at the highest level – including with national and international regulatory bodies - whilst protecting the interests of both the public and our Members.

Our Technical Managers sit on over 40 National, European and International committees .

Supporting your business

The Association is committed to introduce and continuously improve services to support your business. We offer a range of compliance and assurance services, including LIAQA, a dedicated quality assurance scheme for the lighting industry. Our dedicated laboratory, the largest independent lighting laboratory in Europe, is able to independently measure and verify the safety and performance of lighting products. Lumicom, the UK's leading not-for-profit WEEE Compliance Scheme, offers  advice on WEEE compliance and runs the only UK scheme that actually recycles light fittings.

We support the industry by creating and promoting high quality training and industry-focused communication, which in turn stimulates demand for lighting technology and quality products. We also support our Members with more day-to-day aspects of running their business, including:

  • Assistance in obtaining grant funding - on a UK, Europe and world-wide basis
  • HR and HSE consultancy provided (via our service partner Make UK)
  • Discounted training and staff development courses provided by the LIA and our training partners
