The Lighting Industry Academy’s Advanced Certificates have been fully redeveloped and now provides the opportunity for students to take their lighting technical knowledge to an advanced level and offers the highest available level in vocational lighting training, working at Educational Level 5.
The courses, which cover, Interior Lighting and Exterior Lighting offer a much deeper understanding of light, vision and design to deliver professional schemes and can provide a strategic advantage by gaining an in-depth understanding of applying the latest knowledge and thought processes.
The Holophane David Currie Advanced Certificate Awards, commemorate the impact David Currie had at Holophane; with regard to lighting and in particular training to which he was a great enthusiast. In celebration of David, the award for the most outstanding LIA Advanced Certificate Student, is presented every two years.
The 2019 finalists were:
- Faye Greenwood from Ridi Lighting, who studied the Advanced Interior Lighting Certificate
- Richard Parker from Screen & Forster, who studied the Advanced Exterior Lighting Certificate
Faye and Richard presented their work to the esteemed judging panel of Luciano Sabatelli from Holophane Europe Ltd and Course Tutors Bob Bohannon and Iain Macrae.
The 2019 Holophane David Currie Award went to Faye Greenwood from Ridi Lighting who was presented with the Award plus a cheque for £1,000.
For the past five years, Faye has worked with RIDI Group, firstly as a lighting designer, then as an engineer in technical support and more recently as a Product Manager. Through the LIA Advanced Certificate and project experience, Faye hoped to build her knowledge, with the goal of producing interesting and successful lighting schemes, from conception to completion.
Runner Up, Richard Parker of Screen & Forster, received a cheque for £150 and Certificate.
“Faye was up against a tough competitor in Richard, but she just blew the judges minds with the depth of understanding and ability to create concepts, present them and then make them work in detail. She deserved the award and clearly has the aptitude to go far in the Lighting design profession” Iain Macrae, CEng FSLL, Academy Course Tutor
