Steven K Davies - Chief Executive Officer
Prior to the LIA he was the Chief Executive of the National Skills Academy for Power leading a public and private sector backed initiative to attract and retain the skills needed to secure the UK’s power requirements into the future.
From 2000 until 2006 Steve was Vice-President, Strategic Development, at Bombardier Transportation, the world-leading manufacturer of rail and aerospace transport systems. In 2006 he joined EEF and went on to lead a re-organisation effort, helping transform the operation into a more commercial body to secure the financial future of the well-established ‘Federation’.
In addition to working with Bombardier Transportation and the EEF, Steve was formerly Managing Director of SailTime North Wales.
Steve is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and has an MBA from Sheffield Hallam University.
Peter Hunt - Chief Operating Officer
Peter has been involved in the lighting industry since he was a boy, going into the family business and becoming Managing Director of David Hunt Lighting, which later joined forces with dar Lighting in 2000, where he was Design Director for the group.
After dar was sold in a management buy out in 2005, Peter set up a lighting design practice, designing luminaires for several UK and European companies. Peter has designed lighting products for nearly all the major retailers in the UK and some of his designs are still in production after 30 years.
Joining the Lighting Association Council of Management in 1987, Peter served on Council for 13 years becoming President in 1992. He has also been on the judging panel of the LA Student Lighting Design Awards for over 20 Years, the European Lighting Design Awards and the Lux Awards.
In 2008 Peter became The Lighting Association’s Chief Executive Officer. Following the merger of LA and LIF in 2012 Peter became Chief Operating Officer of the Lighting Industry Association. Subsequently Peter has also been elected as President of Lighting Europe until 2019 and CEO of Lumicom (a subsidiary of the LIA).
Hayley Hillyard - Financial Controller
As Financial Controller, Hayley oversees all of the LIA’s financial management. This includes accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
Hayley also brings with her a wealth of knowledge in applying for and managing government grants, especially The European Structural funds and most recently The Regional Growth Fund.
Prior to the LIA, Hayley was the Financial Controller for The National Skills Academy, a role she also held at Energy & Utility Skills and Marketing Birmingham.
Hayley is a qualified account with ACCA, and holds a BA Hons in Business Administration with Accountancy from the University of Bradford.
Simon Cook - Head of Sales, Lumicom Ltd
Simon’s role as Head of Sales for the LIA gives him responsibility for all membership services across the LIA and the LIA Laboratories, in addition to heading up the existing sales team.
Simon is a key figure within the organisation having previously concentrated his efforts on helping Lumicom producers to understand their WEEE obligations and advising them of the options available to allow them to fulfil those obligations.
With over 15 years’ experience in the lighting industry, Simon has a passionate belief in the responsibility the lighting industry has to protect the environment and is also committed to ensuring LIA members are getting the best possible service from the LIA.
Simon is a well-known face at many lighting and recycling events and will continue his commitment to the WEEE scheme forum.
Julie Humphreys - Commercial Manager
Julie’s role of Commercial Manager at the LIA is to look for how best the LIA can build products and services that offer value to our members and the Lighting Industry. With a previous highly successful role in the skills sector as part of a not-for-profit organisation, Julie is now focusing on how to take forward the LIA’s established record of providing industry learning.
With a previous career in developing senior relationships and business opportunities with major corporates and, many years as a Senior Consultant for Cap Gemini, Ernst & Young, Julie has extensive experience in business case development, business analysis and the development of products and services from initial opportunity identification, through to full launch and management. When making a career change to ‘not for profit’ skills sector this experience in establishing and maintaining senior level client and supplier relationships to support business activity identify opportunities proved invaluable in generating a sustainable income stream to fund skills and qualifications.
Lawrence Barling - Senior Technical Manager
As Senior Technical Manager for the LIA, Lawrence is responsible for the technical activities of the association including supporting members in all aspects of EU Directives, Regulations and Standards.
Lawrence has over 30 years’ experience in the lighting industry having worked in product development, standardisation and regulatory roles for Thorn, GE and LA. He represents the LIA and its members on many UK, EU and International (IEC) committees for lighting related subjects. He is Chair of the BSI Lighting and Lamp committees and Convenor of the IEC Lamp Working Group. He was Chair of the IEC Lamp committee SC34A for 12 years and has received the IEC 1906 award for his work at IEC.
Lawrence is also actively involved with the EU trade association for lighting, LightingEurope, and represents LIA on many LightingEurope committees working with the EU Commission on subjects like future ERP and Energy Labelling Regulations.
